Why the neighbors keep coming back

Three things we do the same way every night, whatever is on the menu.

  • Cooked over oak

The grill is lit at 3 pm with oak from a mill in Estacada. Steak, fish and most of the vegetables see it.

  • Bread from 6:40 am

June bakes sourdough every morning. Loaves for home are $9 at the host stand until they're gone.

  • Allergies planned for

Every dish is marked. Tell us when you book and the kitchen plans around it before you sit down.

Notes left at the table

Guests sometimes leave a note with the check. These three are pinned in the kitchen, shared with permission.

  • The server knew which dishes my daughter could eat before we sat down, because I had mentioned it on the phone a week before.

From a guest note, October 2026
  • We came for the chicken and stayed for the bread. Please never take the squash soup off before it gets cold out.

Left with a check, November 2026
  • Thank you for seating us at 9:20 on a Friday when you were clearly closing up. The burger at the bar was exactly right.

Before you come

The questions the host stand answers most.

Something else? Call (503) 555-0142 after 3 pm, or write to us.

Do you take walk-ins?

Yes. The ten bar seats are kept for walk-ins every night, and we seat the dining room from the door when there is room. Friday and Saturday after 7 are the hardest; Tuesday is the easiest.

Can you handle allergies and dietary needs?

Tell us when you book or when you sit down. Every dish is marked on the menu, and the kitchen can change most of them. We bake with wheat and use nuts every day, so we are not a gluten-free or nut-free kitchen.

Is there parking?

After 5 pm the lot behind the building is free for guests; the entrance is on Alder Street. Street parking on Copper Lane is metered until 7. Line 14 stops two minutes away.

Are kids welcome?

Very. We have high chairs, a short kids' menu (pasta, chicken, a half burger) and crayons. Early tables, before 7, are calmer for small people.

How do larger groups book?

Tables of up to 8 book online. For 9 to 24 guests, the back room has its own menus and prices on the private dining page.

Do you charge a service fee?

A 20% service charge is on every check and is shared by everyone who works here, kitchen included. There is no tip line, and you never need to add more.

A table tonight, or Sunday brunch

Book online in a minute, or call the host stand from 3 pm. The bar is always first come, first served.
